Pour the milk into a small saucepan and bring to the boil over medium heat.
Mix in all the ingredients - except the syrup, if you are using it.
Cook over a low heat for about 5 minutes.
Remove from the heat, allow to cool slightly and add the syrup.
Finish with cinnamon or beetroot powder, if you like.
Tip: You can also heat the milk and then put all the ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth and fluffy.
